Forecast discussion

633 FXUS65 KSLC 102235 AFDSLC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Salt Lake City UT 335 PM MST Mon Nov 10 2025 .SYNOPSIS...High pressure will remain in place through midweek continuing dry stable conditions. Southerly winds increase on Thursday ahead of a cold front on Friday that will bring valley rain and mountain snow. && .DISCUSSION...High pressure will keep conditions dry and stable across the area through Wednesday. Thermal inversions are becoming more noticeable across valley locations with Monday afternoon temperatures at higher elevations, such as Alta, running a degree or two warmer than that at KSLC. This will probably keep temperatures a few degrees cooler Tuesday and Wednesday than guidance suggests across valley locations. Southerly winds will increase on Thursday as a trough moves into the western CONUS. Highest wind gusts will be across the west desert, but there is <20% chance of reaching advisory level winds across this area. Guidance continues to trend towards a splitting trough solution for the upcoming storm. There are currently two scenarios. The first being the splitting trough (60% chance) and the second being an open wave (40%). The splitting trough scenario would result in less precipitation and a more modified air mass. Most of the precipitation would come in the form of valley rain and mountain snow along the frontal passage with the heaviest precipitation staying far to our north and south. The open wave scenario would result in more precipitation and a colder airmass that could bring snowlevels closer to valley floors. Assuming the first scenario (splitting trough), conditions will quickly dry out on Saturday with near below normal temperatures settling into most of the CWA. Another trough is apparent in most ensemble members by early next week, but there are some discrepancies regarding the magnitude of this wave. && .AVIATION...KSLC...VFR conditions will prevail over the KSLC terminal through the valid TAF period. Light northwesterly winds remain in place through around 03Z, transitioning to a light southerly flow thereafter with high level clouds lingering through the overnight hours. .REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...VFR conditions persist for all terminals through the TAF period. Light terrain driven winds will prevail, with flows transitioning around 03Z or shortly thereafter. && .SLC WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... UT...None. WY...None. && $$ PUBLIC...Mahan AVIATION...Webber For more information from NOAA`s National Weather Service visit... http://weather.gov/saltlakecity
