Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Boise ID
819 PM MDT Tue Jul 15 2025
.DISCUSSION...Breezy conditions persist across the region behind
today`s dry cold front. The only convection in our area is in
far southern Twin Falls County, and that should move off to the
east by 06Z. After that, it looks dry for the next several days.
And temps are expected to heat back up Thu/Fri. All this is
covered well by the current forecast and no update is planned at
this time.
&&
.AVIATION...Mainly VFR. Smoke aloft, low confidence in MVFR surface
haze at KBNO Wednesday morning. Isolated thunderstorms south of KTWF
tapering off after sunset. Outflow winds are the main impact from
these storms with gusts to 40 kt, but are unlikely to impact
terminals. Surface winds: W-NW 10-20 kt with gusts 20-30 kt through
Wed/06Z, then W-NW 5-15 kt through tomorrow. Winds aloft at 10kft
MSL: W 15-30 kt.
KBOI...VFR and mostly clear, minimal smoke aloft. Surface winds: NW
10-15 kt with gusts up to 25 kt this evening, tapering off after
sunset to NW 4-8 kt through tomorrow.

.PREV DISCUSSION...
SHORT TERM...Tonight through Thursday night...An upper level
trough continues to move south along Western MT into NW Wyoming
tonight. Drier air is moving into the area, keeping the threat
of thunderstorms mainly across the central ID mountains this
afternoon and southern Twin Falls County and areas east. As this
system moves southeast, the threat of storms will also move
southeast, ending the threat of storms tonight. Main threats
with the storms will be wind gusts up to 45 mph and areas of
blowing dust this afternoon and evening. The best dynamics will
generally be over SE Idaho this afternoon and evening. Dry and
breezy conditions expected on Wednesday with steady
temperatures. Slightly warmer conditions on Thursday with
temperatures in the lowest valleys up near 100F again. A slight
chance of thunderstorms in central OR west of Harney County and
southern Idaho along the NV border Thursday afternoon.
LONG TERM...Friday through Tuesday...Models are hinting at a
shortwave moving over the area Friday morning into Friday
afternoon, but the ensemble guidance and current forecast is
dry and hot, with temperatures around 3-5 degrees above normal.
Valley temperatures remain up near 100F on Friday and Saturday.
A trough over British Columbia will bring northwest flow and will
lower temperatures a few degrees with breezy conditions Sunday
through Tuesday.
