.PREV DISCUSSION...
SHORT TERM...Today through Wednesday night...An upper-level
trough will remain over the region through Wednesday,
accompanied by a series of weak shortwaves and cold fronts.
While these features will bring periods of cloud cover and
breezy conditions, the forecast remains dry through midweek.
Temperatures will gradually trend upward, starting around 5
degrees below normal today, returning to near-normal on Tuesday,
and climbing to about 5 degrees above normal by Wednesday.
LONG TERM...Thursday through Monday...The broader trough
pattern will persist over the Pacific Northwest through at least
Saturday. Additional shortwaves and weak frontal passages are
expected, with the best chances for showers and isolated
thunderstorms focused over the central Idaho mountains on
Thursday and Friday. Valley temperatures will peak in the upper
80s to near 90F on Wednesday, then moderate slightly into the
mid to upper 80s Thursday through Saturday.
By Sunday, long-range guidance suggests a strong upper ridge
building over the Northwest and Great Basin. This will usher in
a significant warming trend, with valley highs likely reaching
the mid 90s and potentially approaching the upper 90s early next
week.
